British bottled water production grew to 2.8 billion litres in 2015 – up from 2.1 billion the previous year – with a value of £2.1billion, according to the latest industry figures released by British Bottled Water Producers. The industry data has been provided by Zenith International. Jo Jacobius, Director of British Bottled Water Producers: “For some time now, as a nation we continue to drink more bottled water than fruit juices & nectars, wines or spirits. There is a taste for natural products and this is borne out by the fact that, together, Natural Mineral Waters and Spring Waters account for 93% of total UK bottled water sales”. Plain water is calorie free and tooth-kind and so it is no surprise that bottled water consumption appears to be part of the continuing ‘wellness’ trend. The bottled water sector may well see positive benefits from the latest moves by Government to curb sugar-laden soft drinks. Bottled water consumption is projected to reach 63 litres per person by 2020. Jo Jacobius added: “Buying British is good for Britain. It helps preserve rural jobs; supports British businesses; cuts down on food miles; and, most importantly, backs businesses which act as stewards of the countryside because natural waters must, by definition, be sourced from wholesome, unpolluted land. For natural mineral water and spring water producers in particular, the water bottlers therefore have a keen interest in preserving the natural countryside.” British Bottled Water Producers represents some of the best small and medium sized brands.
